It is impossible to list all the delicious, tempting foods to enjoy on a rainy day, but there is one treat that lets us fully savour every flavour and sensation: ice cream!
Enjoying ice cream on a warm, sunny day is “an everyday occurrence” already! What is more interesting is heading out to an ice cream shop on a torrentially rainy day, while everyone else just wants to snuggle under a warm blanket. We throw on an extra light jumper and happily dash out. Oh, how amusing—we think we will have the shop all to ourselves, only to discover that plenty of people share our fondness for enjoying ice cream on rainy days. Somehow, strangers become familiar faces at moments like that; we exchange gentle smiles and find our own little corners.
I am romantic and dreamy by nature, so when choosing ice cream, I remain loyal to Gelato—the Italian style. Anyone who is an ice cream “enthusiast” knows that Gelato is different from Ice-Cream. That is why, whenever I visit my favourite shop, I leisurely order my favourite cup of ice cream, rest my chin in my hand and watch the rain until the ice cream is ready on the table. Then the cool air rises and wafts across my face—what a wonderful feeling.
When enjoying ice cream on a rainy day, I allow myself to be wonderfully lazy, reclining in my chair and gazing at the thick, fragrant, smooth ice cream, fresh-tasting and not overly sweet. When I find myself swallowing eagerly, I quickly sit up straight and savour it one spoonful at a time. You might think that the cold weather combined with cold ice cream would make us freeze too, but strangely, I do not even shiver. The only feeling I get is an incredible sense of refreshment, while all the troubles in my heart gradually fade away with every spoonful. Like a child, I eagerly scrape the cup clean to the very last spoonful, then boldly order another. No matter how heavily it rains outside, I remain here, tapping my feet to the music, slowly enjoying my ice cream and patiently waiting as its coolness passes down my throat and begins to spread throughout my body. Oh, what a marvellous feeling! It is certainly something you cannot find in a steaming hotpot or a skewer of piping-hot street food.
If people say that eating ice cream on a rainy day is “crazy” or “odd”, let them! There are some feelings that we can only understand after experiencing them ourselves—even after experiencing them many times.
